Week 7 - Tagging, folksonomies, del.icio.us, LibraryThing

I need to watch this clip at home as it isn't loading properly at work:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x66lV7GOcNU&feature=user
(Social bookmarking in plain English)

Folksonomy is a new word for me:

Tagging, remember, allows you to associate keywords with online content - webpages, pictures, posts, etc. It is considered a folksonomy, aka an unstructured categorization scheme.

Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking site that lets you save bookmarks to a central location (no more copying them to multiple browsers on multiple computers) and classify them all with tags.
Well, in addition to tagging your bookmarks, you can see how other users have tagged the same links and see related websites are important to them. This is an excellent way to find websites that may be of interest to you.

Mr Bean at the Library - YouTube

Week 6 - Videos Online

Having a quick look at Week 6 - Videos Online.

The purpose of this exercise is to embed videos into blogs.
I found one on YouTube and will attempt to add it now.
:)

Week 5 - Wikis

Today I'm looking at wikis , eg

http://pbwiki.com/
I tried to view the pbwiki tour but the page was taking ages to load so I will watch it at home.

I've created a PBWiki account and have requested access to
nswlearning2.pbwiki.com.
(Note: PB stands for "peanut butter" as it's supposed to be as easy as making a sandwich!

I've also looked at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Tutorial
and the other links in this session.

This wiki is specifically for Readers' Advisory Services
http://readersadvisory.wetpaint.com/?t=anon

One great idea mentioned on that blog is one that come up at the Leeton course: "blind date with a book" , "mystery book".
I did actually join this Wiki after the Leeton course, but I've "re-joined" under a different name now. :)

Adventure:Look up the entry for your local town or area in Wikipedia. How could
it be improved? Edit the entry.

I couldn't do this as there was no entry for Young.

This has been a very comprehensive session !

Flickr

I've gone back to Week 3 tutorial and have now joined Flickr and am adding some pics - well, I've done one ! Now I'm stuck !!

RSS Feeds (Week 4 in Learning Web 2.0)

Today I am learning about RSS Feeds and Bloglines.
The YouTube clips by Lee LeFever on RSS Feeds, blogs, Twitter etc were very informative.
Here's one:

I've set up a Bloglines account and have some RSS Subscriptions - I'm finding it a bit confusing adding them though but I'm sure it will all fall into place as I become more familiar.

I am slowly learning Web 2.0 through NSW Public Libraries!
Hopefully we can make great use of it on the SWRL webpage.
