Learning 2.1

I'm having a quick look at the new Learning 2.1.. it looks great and I can't wait to learn more.

I have my own Twitter, but I don't use it much - but I will make up a Library twitter and make use of it, as I do with the Facebook page.

I just need to remember to use the tag: #nswlearning2.1

Will progress more through this later in the week.

My Mashup pic

I did do a couple of mashups with pics I had of the library but I didn't save them. This particular pic is one I made up with my daughter.
I'll try to add some more later.

NSW Reference and Information Services Group

I have joined this forum as it looks very worthwhile:

Week 12 - Wrap up; social networks and catch up

A social network service focuses on building online communities of people who share interests and/or activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. Most social network services are web based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant messaging services.

This is one MySpace page I looked at:
http://www.myspace.com/atyourlibrary

I'm not crazy about MySpace - I prefer Facebook.

This is an interesting article:

http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/East-Renfrewshire-uses-Facebook-to.3728528.jp

A SCOTTISH local authority has become the first in the UK to use Facebook to publicise its council services. Members of the social networking site can sign up to receive updates on forthcoming events, special offers, photos and newsletters from East Renfrewshire.

The council has also launched pages for all ten of its libraries, its four sports centres and the local theatre, including information on opening times and facilities. Users can leave comments, interact with staff, discuss their favourite book or seek advice on how to use a PC with other users on discussion boards.

The British Library page is fabulous ! I've become a fan and recommended it to a few people.

I think Bebo would be great for a "younger" group of people but I don't know enough about it to set it up for our library.

I am very excited about the Facebook page and I've enjoyed setting it up and keeping it updated.. it is going to be a very worthwhile addition to the Library information service.

I had a quick look at Second Life.. I have joined this in the past to have a look at it. I couldn't get into the link for the Second Life Library Project.

I have done the feedback page now - thank you for a very interesting program.

Note to self: put in a mashup pic into the blog.

Week 11 Online Applications and Tools

It's been a while since I've had a chance to do the Learning 2.0 - it's been very busy in the library and my spare (computer) time at home has been spent setting up the Library's Facebook page.
If you are on Facebook, look for South-West Regional Library, Young Branch.

I need to watch this at home as I can't hear it on the library computer:

I have also put the link on my Facebook and Twitter :)

As per the exercise, I went into Google Docs and sent a document to:
nswpln@gmail.com

As for possible applications for this at the library, I'm not really sure - I can see that it would be useful in some situations but maybe not for us.

I didn't join Zoho - maybe I will if I see there is a need for continuing with it.
