Week 10 - Mashups

http://learning2slnswfaq.blogspot.com/

Just found this blogspot - the "weeks" are different though.
It has Week 9 as "Catch up", 10 is Answer boards, 11 is Podcasts and 12 is Mashups (where I'm up to now).

I think this is the correct place though:

I have just put a podcast link for the SLNSW on my Facebook.

Today I am looking at Mashups:

Mashups are hybrid web applications that take features from one application (like Flickr) and mash it up with another (like a mapping program).

This link is fascinating:
London: A Life in Google Maps
http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/features/londoninmaps/exhibition.html

I went to bighugelabs and made two mashups with pics I'd taken of the library.
I think I've added one to my blog :)

I must go back into that site and do some more - it was fun !!

Podcasting explained

Week 9: Podcasts and Audio

A 'podcast' is a non-music audio or video recording that is distributed over the internet. The distribution is what makes a podcast unique. It's also what makes a podcast powerful - interested listeners or watchers can receive updates through RSS when new content is posted.

Personal
On
Demand
(broad)casting

Listened to ABC Radio:
"Is it just me?" (Wendy Harmer and Angela Cattens)and "The Career Path - changing the world"

Lots of information (including how to podcast) here:

This one especially looks fascinating:

I posted this link:

to my Facebook and Delicious .

This has been a very interesting section of the tutorial.

Week 8 - Answer boards and social searching

Continuing on from Week 7, I've added my librarything widget to my blog but it's showing up in a post, not on the side, as I assume it should be.
Hopefully, I'll sort that out soon.

I think I know a lot about answer boards (forums) - I have been involved with them for many years. In fact, I do belong to taste.com.au (the example given) and I do often use Answers etc.

I am Admin for a couple of author websites: Philippa Gregory and Patricia Lewin.
I also am involved in other forums with different interests.

Very interesting:

Consider is there a role for your library in “slamming the boards”? In what ways might your customers like to rate or review items in the collection or services you offer? Share your thoughts in your blog.

Not really sure about this actually - I don't think there is much of a need for it.

I have asked a question in Yahoo Answers:

http://au.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090407220555AAMlBqm

What is the difference between the harvard and oxford referencing system?

How do I add my librarything widget?

Continuing Week 7

Didn't finish this Week last time, so going back to it now.

I already have a librarything account and love it !
Just wish I was adding more books to it all the time. :)

My username there is :

cookiecat

I think I did join Shelfari a while back (my friend Pat in Switzerland recommended it) , but I haven't been using it .

I'm now looking at how to "add a widget" to my blog !
Wish me luck !!
